I started taking amateur nude self-portraits a little after I did my first nude shoot as a model. Then, around the same time I started taking photographs of naked people myself, I stepped up the self-portrait production effort in order to stimulate experimentation and creativity in my photography and visual storytelling as well as to denudate my own thoughts and feelings and express myself through image-making. Self-portraits are the only circumstance where photographers can really say they are the sole authors of their work — except if we count the viewer’s interpretation as being part of the work itself. And often, even my own interpretation of these self-portraits is frequently changing.
